50 ANOS DO FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE MÚSICA POP MONTEREY - 16 DE JUNHO 1967 (ABERTURA) - PARTE 01


Hoje faz 50 anos que dava início há um dos mais lendário festival de rock no mundo, o Festival Internacional de Música Pop de Monterey (Monterey International Pop Music Festival). A cidade de Monterey no litoral da Califórnia, um pouco ao sul de São Francisco transformava-se no mais estrondoso cenário musical do ano de 1967.  O paraíso dos psicodélicos foi apelidado de “Verão do Amor” dos hippies, Monterey. Foi o primeiro grande festival de rock do planeta, e tornando-se referência para os futuros festivais, incluindo Woodstock no ano de 1969. Mais de 200.000 pessoas compareceram à Monterey o dobro do esperado, estima-se que 90.000 foi ao festival. O evento teve início numa sexta-feira do dia 16 e finalizando no domingo, 18 de junho de 1967 na Monterey County Fairgrounds. A idealização surgiu dos produtores Loud Adler e Alan Pariser, do publicitário Derek Taylor e do o músico John Phillips (do The Mamas & the Papas). Além dos membros da comissão, os famosos integrantes dos Beatles e dos Beach Boys. As apresentações dos artistas foram de graça, e toda a renda arrecadada foi doada à instituições de caridade por intermédio da "Monterey International Pop Festival Foundation" (MIPFF). Com exceção de Ravi Shankar. As apresentações no primeiro dia contou com as participações das bandas de rock como: The Association, The Paupers, Lou Rawls, Beverly, Johnny Rivers (com sua kombi esfumaçada), Eric Burdon and The Animals e Simon and Garfunkel.
